Onboarding: Create Your First Customer
Add your first contact to the CRM.
Overview
Adding your first customer to the CRM creates a record that ties together every interaction with them — emails, calls, deals, notes — in one place, right from your very first entry.

Why it exists
The CRM is where every other module's activity ultimately connects — a campaign click, an inbound call, a signed deal. Creating your first customer record is what makes that connection possible from day one instead of retrofitting it later.
Benefits
- Every future conversation with this contact, across any channel, automatically attaches to their record.
- Deals, tasks, and notes can be tracked against a real contact from the start.
- Sets the pattern for Import Contacts if you have an existing customer list to bring in.
Step-by-step guide
- Go to CRM → Contacts and click Add Contact.
- Enter their name and at least one way to reach them (email or phone).
- Optionally add a company, tags, or notes.
- Save — the contact now has a profile page where all future activity will appear.
Tips
- Add a note about how you know this contact (referral, website form, walk-in) — small context like this is useful later and hard to reconstruct after the fact.
- If you have more than a handful of existing customers, skip ahead to Import Contacts instead of adding them one by one.
Best Practices
- Use consistent tags from the start (e.g., "lead," "customer," "past customer") — it makes filtering and future campaigns much easier.
Common Mistakes
- Creating duplicate contacts for the same person under slightly different names. Search first before adding a new contact if you're not sure whether one already exists.
Troubleshooting
If a new contact doesn't appear immediately in a list view, check any active filters or tags on that view — the contact was likely created successfully but filtered out.
Frequently Asked Questions
You need at least one way to reach them for most CRM features (like automation) to work correctly.
Once connected channels are set up, their conversation automatically attaches to this same contact record rather than creating a duplicate.
